Mount Snow & Dover, Vermont

Situated along the southern end of Vermont’s Green Mountains, the small town of Dover is one of the prettiest in Windham County. Though it may best be known for its ski resort, Mount Snow, Dover’s higher elevation and mountainous setting allow for nearly endless outdoor activities in all four seasons. Despite having a population of only 1,400, Dover is a well known destination for many New Englanders due to its great scenery, ample opportunities for skiing, hiking, and biking, and its many delightful restaurants and shops.

Accessible from Route 100 in western Windham County, Dover is less than 45 minutes from the somewhat larger Vermont towns of Brattleboro, Bennington, and Manchester, and it is located between the three. Although the town is quite a bit smaller than the many larger communities in Vermont, there is no shortage of things to do or places to visit in Dover. With restaurants that range from casual to gourmet, clothing and jewelry stores, antique stores, spas, and some of the best outdoor gear shops in southern Vermont, it’s easy to find something that will interest everyone.

For families residing in Dover, the Dover School serves students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The school is regarded for its teacher-to-student ratio of about 1 to 10 and has programs ranging from music instruction to technology integration.

Dover is also home to the Mount Snow Academy, one of the nation’s most distinguished programs for aspiring alpine skiers, boarders, and freeriders. It caters to both boarding students and day students, and offers academic instruction in tandem with the area’s school systems. And for golf enthusiasts looking to hone their game, the Original Golf School at the Mount Snow Golf Club has been voted the best golf instruction program in the Northeast by Golf Digest.

People have long visited Dover for its excellent skiing, beautiful scenery, and close proximity to many other New England towns and cities, but it is far more than just a nice vacation spot for outdoorsy individuals.
